Sasthra Poshini

Sastraposhini is the training programme conducted from 2002 by the State Government for High School Teachers by KSCSTE (Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment). A 3-day training programme organized by KSCSTE is is conducted at C-SiS for School Teachers selected from various Schools in Kerala. The training programme conducted yearly at the Centre usually have about 50-60 participants. For years now, the Centre for Science in Society, CUSAT has been the Training Centre for 'Sastra Poshini', the Science Learning, Research and Development programme of KSCSTE.

Study Material Designing and Creation Workshop

C-SiS often conducts Workshops for designing and creating innovative Study Materials based on Science Principles. Workshops are conducted on Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The materials required for the creation of Study Materials are provided at the Centre. The materials thus created by the teachers are taken to their schools for coaching their students. Those teachers who are interested to participate in these workshops can register their names in advance. These workshops are conducted free of cost by the Centre.

Science Video for Teaching - Competition for School Teachers

Announcement of lock down due to Covid-19 pandemic from the month of March 2020 severely affected the entire sectors especially educational field. Even though the final exams were conducted in state of Kerala, many other states were forced to cancel the same due to the widespread of Covid. Even after the reopening of the schools, the situation remained panic. Almost all the educational institutions in the country have started their curriculum with online classes and conduction of exams also being successfully managed. In this scenario, C-SiS has the responsibility to take the lead & to carry out some useful programmes to the society and students. The centre conducted Science teaching Video competition for science and maths School Teachers.

Training on LED Repair for Public

A hands on training of LED repair for women from poor families has been conducted in collaboration with Ezhikkara Panchayath and Palliackal service cooperative bank, Ezhikkara on Nov 24-26, 2020. The training includes the repair, making and checking of various parameters in connection with the LED lights. The participants were collected and bring the expired bulbs and they have serviced to make useful by their own. The follow up activities including the initiation of a permanent station for the repair of LED lights in the panchayaths is in progress.

Water Clinic

As a commitment to the society, C-SiS in association with Department of Chemical Oceanography, CUSAT organised Well Water Quality Test and Water Quality Awareness Programme to the public of Edappally area, Ernakulam district on 10/03/2022. Edappally Vadakkum bhagam Service Cooperative Bank extended their help to implement the programme successfully. Water quality test kits developed by C-SiS were used for the programme.

Creative Workshop on Designing and Developing STREAM Centers

The Strengthening Teaching Learning and Results for States (STARS) Program is a World Bank aided, federally funded program that aims at improving the school education system in India. Kerala is one among the six states selected for the implementation of the STARS project in the country. Establishment of STREAM (Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Centers is one of the programs under STARS. To develop concepts and strategies for the effective implementation of this program, Samagra Shiksha Kerala (SSK) and Center for Science in Society (C-SiS) jointly organized a Creative Workshop on Designing and Developing STREAM Centers on 11th and 12th of August 2022 at C-SiS.

World Environment Day Celebration

Centre for Science in Society in collaboration with Green Initiative Cell of CUSAT has organized a state level quiz contest for collegiate level on the theme 'Nature Conservation'. The competition was held at Seminar hall, C-SiS on June 5, 2022. More than 50 colleges were participated in the programme.

Little Scientist Programme

As a commitment to the society, C-SiS in association with Rural Science and Technology Center Thuruthikara organised Little Scientist Programme to school children on 03/05/2022. The venue of the programme was Government Technical High School in Mulanthuruthy.

C-SiS Nature Brigade

C-SiS Nature Brigade, an Environment protection initiative by Centre for Science in Society, Cochin University of Science and Technology was inaugurated on February 23, 2021 by Hon. Vice Chancellor of CUSAT Dr. K N Madhusoodanan. The club is constituted by the presence of Teachers and students from 25 different schools in Kerala. The activities including Awareness about the environmental protection, Bioremediation, commemorate the important days in connection with the environment. The club will do the activities in collaboration with the member schools and their Nature clubs.
